How to use advanced search
The advanced search function allows you to define specific searches, for example for certain people, places or years, using the corresponding fields:
- “Author” to search for authors by their name, e.g. Peter Winkler or Winkler, Peter or Winkler
- "Year" to search for a single year (e.g. 1861) or time periods (e.g. 1861-1865 or 1861 to 1865)
Exception: Searches in "Title" and "All fields" are always carried out as fuzzy searches and will also find similar matches.
Full-text search
Using this field returns matches for the searched terms in full texts and contents pages as well as in the metadata of the digitized documents and publications.
General remarks relating search operators
- Putting search terms in quotation marks ("") returns results for this sequence of words.
- A request with search terms enclosed in quotation marks followed by an exclamation mark ("XX"!) finds exact sequence of letters, but no derived forms of the search word.
- A request with search terms in quotation marks followed by a trailing tilde plus number ("XX"~X) finds the combination of words within a maximum of 5 words. Any number can be used.
- Automatic truncation takes place as a rule. Placeholder, such as the question mark (?) or asterik (*), are not supported.
